summer's best

summer is almost here...and i love summertime memories...i like making memories too but there are some things that have changed over the years....it's fun to remember the good things of years gone by...so i will start my ten top "fond memories of summer"....

number 10 is "the ice-cream man" of the new jersey beaches...we spent many many hours at the new jersey beaches ...we lived 35 minutes from atlantic city / ventnor until i was in the third grade. i remember spending the days sunbathing next to the nuns. they had a large convent on the beach so it was common to see them in their black bathing suits. the boardwalk in atlantic city was neat...being able to ride one ride was a big deal to us. however..... the ice cream man was the biggest deal... he would walk the beach in his white uniform and yell out....ICE CREAM....GET YOUR ICE CREAM...GET YOUR FUDGIE WUDGIE HERE!!....it wasn't often we could get one (money was tight) but it was sooo exciting when we could...it was so cool to see the guy open the large box he carried on his back...it was so cold inside that the smoke would roll out of the open lid and he would reach inside and take out just what you asked for...i always wondered how he knew what he was getting ....you couldn't see a thing inside....then the ice-cream would taste sooooo good ....it was cold going down when all around you things were hot....hot sunshine, hot sand......and then the cold ice cream....mmmmmmm great memories of summer.....i loved the ice cream man.....
